this place just hits! authentic vietnamese food. the canh chua ca is the perfect soup on a cold houston day. the flavor is less sweet than a lot of restaurants which I do appreciate. caramelized pork belly in clay pot was soooo dang good. a little more fatty than I liked but still had a good ratio of meat appetizer - forgot what it was called. prob would not order again, feels like it's missing something. the egg rolls were decent we waited 45 minutes for our food which was quite long but when the food arrived, we were satisfied!
The BEST family meal ever! The interior is really cute and cozy! It has a really cool vibe that suitable for family gathering. The food was soooooooo good! Caramelized fish (cá bông lau kho tộ) was ON TOP, highly recommended. It tastes very homey. The sour soup is good as well; very authentic. My mom is a very picky eater and rarely go to any restaurant. Yet, she loves this place on the first try. The waiter is very honest with food recommendations. Overall, this restaurant is worth the hype :)
Visited for my wife's birthday with my family. Very friendly staff, accommodating when I wanted to bring in a birthday cake from the outside Food was great and good portions.
Authentic Vietnamese restaurant that specializes in clay pot dishes! My mom who grew up in Vietnam loved this restaurant's food! I loved their shaking beef, the crispy shrimp lettuce wraps, and the rice cake with egg dish. Those three were my absolute top favorites! All so delicious and great flavors/textures of crunch. The service was quick and the ambiance is quaint!
All good things start with a clay pot. Been wanting to go to Clay Pot so bestie and I hit it up. Ordered: sweet and sour catfish soup, clay pot catfish, stir fried water spinach and crispy fried tofu with shrimp paste. S/S catfish (3/5) - soup was refreshing; the texture of the catfish was a bit strange to me. Lots of bones so be careful. clay pot catfish (4/5) - really good - there are bones but to me not as many in the pieces . water spinach (5/5) - was perfection, so good - it was cooked - tender but crunchy and garlicky but not overdone tofu w/shrimp paste (3/5) - tofu was crispy on the outside but soft on the inside.; the paste is strong, so it's an acquired taste - a little bit goes a long way Many things I want to try so will def will be back.
I liked it a lot! I love everything in Clay pot. Tom rim was bussinnn! the shell was hard to peel off though, super sticky. we went the day they got power back on, so we didn't get to experience the full menu, but I would definitely like to come back. The cafe sua da was pretty good, and I got canh chua, rau muong. Excellent dishes! when I came, it was lit inside, every table was full, definitely easy to get a table if you are a small group. Great service, you know they work their butt off! I want to come back, order more food and get some desserts!
Home away from home. Canh Chua here is one of the best I've ever tasted, 10/10, absolutely amazing, and tastes exactly like my mom's. Broth was sour, savory, rich, filled with vegetables, and best of all, the buttery fish that falls apart in your mouth. Love love love. It was our first time trying Bun Dau Mam Tom, and I can say it was a great experience! Mam was not too salty, and it's a great dish for the summer. Dồi was a bit chewy though and can be cooked a little bit more. Braised ribs was not the best we've had, but overall not bad. A bit salty, and the main con is that it was very very tough. I lovee to eat cartilage, but the cartilage in this dish was rock hard. I did informed the owner about it though and she said they will work on it. Stir fried corn tasted great in the beginning, but at the very end you can see a lot of oil sitting at the bottom. I also think the dish is a bit expensive for what it is. Overall, although the place has a few pointers they could improve on, I think this place is great for homestyle Vietnamese comfort food. Also, don't forget to try their desserts. I forgot to take a picture because we devoured it so fast, but I highly recommend the Flan (with coffee on top) and Taiwanese pudding. Both were sooo incredibly creamy, not too sweet, and the best ending to the meal.
It's located in an unassuming strip mall further down on Bellaire, there's not much around, but this restaurant is such a hidden gem. The atmosphere inside is serene and inviting, background music is soothing, service is friendly and welcoming, and the food is beyond impressive. The signature dishes here are clay pots, so we had to try it. We tried the clay pot caramelized pork and shrimp. Wow, the flavor of this dish is phenomenal, meat is so soft and juicy, it made us eat extra bowls of rice because how good the flavor is. The shaking beef is 10/10, never had a beef dish this well done, the meat is well seasoned and tender. I highly recommend getting this one if you want something non clay pot to balance it out.
Saw multiple ig videos of this place of their amazing clay pot dishes and wanted to check it out. The ambiance was decent, normal Vietnamese establishments with plenty of seating and amazing Vietnamese culture embraced. The service was good, they checked up on us every 5 - 10 minutes. We ordered the caramelized pork belly. This was good, growing up eating home made, this was pretty on par. Wished there were more meat to fatty ratio. They brought this out in a clay pot. The canh chưa was pleasantly well seasoned, normally I ordered the fish version, but my friend didn't want any seafood, so we substitute for a pork ribs option and it was surprisingly good. Also ordered the bánh bot chiến. It was ok, crispy but nothing compared to tan tan. Overall was good, but pretty mid compared to other restaurants in Bellaire. The clay pot is nice, but didn't do much justice for the food
We ordered a few items. Kind of disappointed they didn't have heo quay (crispy pork)... they apparently took it off the menu because some people said it was too crispy. The sampler plate was just okay... wouldn't order that again. Com ga chicken was very flavorful... the goi (chicken salad) with it had too much sauce for my liking.. pickled veggies on it weren't that good. Now "can we skip to the good part?" The sour soup/canh chua was very good! It's usually not sour enough for my taste. The rau muong had very good flavor but was a bit on the sweet side... I've never had it with the pork fat before... still very good and would def order again. Ca kho to was very good as well (not pictured). Would definitely return.
